Thanksgiving Market

Thanksgiving Market

Rural life comes to town at the Thanksgiving Market. The reason why it is so popular is the plethora of produce sold by the farmers themselves, combined with demonstrations of life in the country and work on the land, both now and in the past.

Traditional handcrafts are demonstrated, Apfelwein (cider) is freshly made in old fruit presses, historic farming equipment is on show. A man with a barrel organ strolls the streets between the stands, many of which have baaing sheep and bleating goats, or donkeys, chickens and guinea pigs.  Culinary delights keep you going through a long and fascinating day, on which the shops are also open. An ecumenical service in front of the Kurhaus ensures the traditional thanks to God for the summer's rich harvest.
