Lantern Festival

As August moves into September, Bad Homburg spends a "long weekend" celebrating its Lantern Festival. The entire center of town – all brightly illuminated – becomes a fairground from Friday through to Monday. Stands offering the widest range of merchandise, snacks and drinks, and interspersed with carousels, line the Louisenstrasse down to Ritter-von-Marx-Brücke and up to the fairground on Schwalbacher Strasse. Wine and beer gardens are set up in cozy courtyards, in the Old Town as well. Rock and pop bands give live concerts on the squares in the town center and at many other venues.

The Bad Homburg Lantern Festival would, moreover, not be complete without the two festive processions featuring decorated motif floats and music groups on Saturday and Sunday, the procession of lantern-bearing children on the Monday, the children's festival at the Russian Church, the large greyhound festival with beauty contest and race in the Jubiläumspark, and the closing ceremony with its magnificent fireworks display. A charming Lantern Queen rules over all the colorful festivities.
